New Leica ALS50 Airborne Laser Scanner to be released worldwide in February 2003.

Leica Geosystems’ GIS & Mapping announced that it will release the new Leica ALS50 Airborne Laser Scanner worldwide in February 2003. The announcement was made at the Pecora 15 Remote Sensing Conference in Denver, Colo., USA.

The ALS50 offers the power and aptitude of the ALS40 in a new, portable scanner design with scanning speeds 20-40 percent faster than competing systems. Measuring roughly 8.5 inches tall and weighing 65 pounds, the compact ALS50 Scanner Assembly allows fast and simple installation in helicopters and small aircraft.

The ALS50 will be on display for the first time at the International LIDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF), New Orleans, La., USA on 28-29 January 2003.
