The donated equipment will help students understand mathematical concepts.

Frontier Surveying of Corpus Christi, Texas, donated equipment worth $20,000 to Rockland District High School after receiving a letter from students requesting surveying equipment for their math classes. The high school is in Rockland, Maine. Frontier Surveying president Robert Young places great emphasis on education at Frontier Surveying. Every year the company opens their doors to a few high school seniors for the annual Groundhog Shadow Day. Young regularly speaks at high school career days and most recently was asked to give a seminar on business ethics to local surveying companies. The company also emphasizes continuing education in the surveying and mapping fields for its employees.

The donated equipment will help students better understand mathematical concepts. College prep geometry classes will calculate the area of a pentagonal piece of land using the Total Station and prism. Advanced placement calculus classes will get an intensive one-month course in surveying after they take their AP exam.

Rockland sends many high schoolers to the Midcoast School of Technology for accelerated classes. Auto-tech, CAD/CAM, hydraulics, graphic arts and boat building are a few of the programs the college offers.
