Avenza provided MAPublisher software to the volunteer group Shinai Serjali so that they may more effectively support recently contacted indigenous groups in the Peruvian Amazon.

Avenza Systems Inc. announces that it has provided MAPublisher software to the volunteer group Shinai Serjali so that they may more effectively support recently contacted indigenous groups in the Peruvian Amazon.

"Faced with the challenge of communicating the rainforest use by indigenous people, we found GIS packages too limited. MAPublisher provides us with the flexibility to develop new ways to present indigenous territories, producing maps that can be used as tools to protect indigenous rights. We are grateful to Avenza for its support of our activities,” said Gregor MacLennan of Shinai Serjali.

Shinai Serjali is a voluntary group supporting recently contacted indigenous groups in the Peruvian Amazon with the objective of ensuring that the land rights of these groups are respected by the Peruvian government. Shinai Serjali teaches about maps and provides training in the use of GPS units, helping indigenous groups map their land and present their maps to government in an acceptable format.
