Trimble Introduces New Total Stations

The Spectra Precision Optical TS305 and TS315 allow contractors to take control of layout.

Trimble, Sunnyvale, Calif., introduced the new TS305 and TS315 from its Spectra Precision Optical line of products. The construction total stations provide a complete layout solution that eliminates the need for using measuring tapes, plumb bobs, theodolites or separate distance measuring equipment to give the general contractor more control and better accuracy on the jobsite.

The TS305 and TS315 offer Direct Reflex (DR), a unique measuring capability which provides contractors the ability to measure without the need for a prism. By allowing general contractors to layout an entire job with one setup, the construction total stations eliminate the need to perform multiple theodolite setups or other more time consuming methods.

With the ability to do layout from the building axis by using control hubs, aligning along a building line and completing a 90 degree layout from anywhere on the jobsite, contractors no longer have to depend solely on other professionals to provide effective and accurate measurement and positioning. These construction total stations can also be used for as-built checks once work has been completed.

The DR measurement technique provides greater versatility of measurement than a traditional total station instrument by allowing general contractors to measure directly to any surface with high accuracy and without the need for a prism and a second person. This capability saves the contractor valuable time and creates greater efficiencies. The DR also allows the operator to measure objects up to 100 meters away that were previously impossible or difficult to measure without special accessories and measurement techniques.

With software developed specifically for the construction-focused user, the instruments are easy to learn and simple to use. The self-explanatory menu allows for the operator to adjust the equipment to different levels of usage, making execution easy for those who want to perform simple procedures to more detailed or advanced operations.

The TS305 and TS315 feature a water-resistant and rugged body and are capable of working all day on a single internal battery. The instruments come in a practical carrying case, which also holds the charger, mini-prism and pole.

The TS315 construction total station features internal memory, which provide general contractors with added functionality. The instrument comes complete with Trimble’s Field Data Module software for a personal computer and allows the contractor to import building design data as well as prepare and transfer the stakeout data directly to the TS315.
