The 3rd FIG Regional Conference will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia October 3-7, 2004. The conference is organised by FIG, the Ikatan Surveyor Indonesia (ISI) and the Indonesian National Coordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping (BAKOSURTANAL). It is co-sponsored by several United Nations agencies: FAO, UN-Habitat and UNEP as well as the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), Permanent Committee on GIS Infrastructures for Asia and the Pacific and the ASEAN Federation of Land Surveying and Geomatics (ASEAN FLAG). The local partners in Indonesia include the Ministry of Research and Technology (RISTEK), the Governor of Jakarta City Government and the National Land Agency (BPN) Indonesia.

As at the previous FIG Regional Conferences, the focus of the conference is on the region, this time in Asia and the Pacific, but the theme "Surveying the Future - Contributions to Economic, Environmental and Social Development" is of interest to surveyors all over the world. All ten FIG Commissions will attend and many of them will also have their administrative meetings.

Similar to the previous regional conference in Marrakech in 2003, FIG expects that more than 400 delegates from more than 40 countries will attend.
