In the past, data collection professionals have had to resort to proprietary or custom-built systems in order to achieve full integration between GIS and survey equipment. LEICA MobileMatriX, from Leica Geosystems brings both technologies together in an off-the-shelf, yet fully customisable solution. The combination of GIS technology from ESRI and surveying equipment, represents a new era in data collection.
One of the key objectives of LEICA MobileMatriX is to streamline the flow of data from the office to the field and back again. To ensure maximum compatibility with all systems, Leica MobileMatriX allows the user to interact with data from different sources, like CAD systems (e.g. AutoCAD, Microstation), and other GIS-Systems (e.g. Intergraph, Mapinfo, Smallworld).
With LEICA MobileMatriX, field crews are able to to take relevant data from the office into the field where they can connect to Total Stations and GPS sensors and map features in real time together with highly accurate location information.
With this combination alongside ArcObjects development technology from ESRI, field crews are now enabled to perform both GIS and survey data collection anywhere on the earth. With this combination of high precision survey equipment and the quality assurance of GIS computations and measurements, the reliability of the data is ensured over time. Furthermore, the data are stored in the database together with the feature information, which leads to a consistent and high-quality data structure. After each day in the field finished data are transfered back in the office. Additionally, attributes can be collected and stored with the feature in the geodatabase.
