Trimble, Sunnyvale, Calif., acquired the privately held Applanix Corporation of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, in a stock transaction valued at approximately $18.6 million. Applanix is a developer of systems that integrate Inertial Navigation System (INS) and GPS technologies. Applanix will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary and Trimble intends to recognize its revenues under the company’s Portfolio Technologies business segment. Trimble expects the acquisition to be neutral to earnings in 2003 and accretive in 2004.

Ralph W. Harris, RPLS, past president of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (1985), died June 23, 2003 at the Texas Neurological Rehabilitation Center. Harris was the recipient of the 1986 Texas Surveyor of the Year award, and a member of TSPS, the National Society of Professional Surveyors and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping.

LizardTech Inc., Seattle, Wash., reached a definitive agreement of acquisition with Celartem Technology USA Inc., New York, N.Y. LizardTech employs 29 people and is being acquired for $11.25 million. Under terms of the agreement, LizardTech will operate as a separate unit within the Celartem Group of companies and will be known as LizardTech Inc., a Celartem Company. LizardTech will maintain its existing U.S. operations as well as its London-based European efforts. Carlos Domingo, Celartem Global Office chief operating officer, directs acquisition strategy and is leading post-acquisition efforts. Interim LizardTech CEO Scot Land will remain in place until a new CEO is appointed by Celartem.

Eagle Point, Dubuque, Iowa, hired two new field business consultants to further meet the needs of its clients located in the east and west. Todd Avenarius joins Eagle Point from his office in Southern California and John Frazier will work out of his Rochester, New York location. Avenarius, whose professional background is in marketing consulting, will be a part of Eagle Point’s Western Region Relationship Building Team, based in the Los Angeles area. Frazier, whose background is in executive management consulting, will join the Northeast Regional Relationship Building Team, based out of Rochester, New York.



Hutson
Tripod Data Systems, Corvallis, Ore., named Kent Hutson as national accident investigation sales manager. Hutson is responsible for sales activities of Nikon accident investigation products through TDS. Prior to joining TDS, Hutson spent 22 years with Nikon as a regional sales manager.

Stewart
TDS also named Daryl W. Stewart as marketing product manager. Stewart is responsible for managing Nikon survey products. Prior to joining TDS, Stewart spent 11 years with Nikon as a regional sales manager and as a systems manager. Stewart will be based in Corvallis, Ore.

Aangeenbrug
Bob Aangeenbrug died May 15, 2003, in Lawrence, Kan. Aangeenbrug was an assistant professor at Boston University, professor in the department of geography-meteorology at Kansas University, executive director of the Association of American Geographers from 1984 to 1989, and professor and former chairman of the geography department at the University of Southern Florida. He was also the 11th URISA president.
