CSDMS, India and MACRES, Malaysia to Organise Map Asia 2003 in Kuala Lumpur 01.16.2003

Map Asia is the largest conference and exhibition on Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and Remote Sensing (RS) in Asia.

Centre for Spatial Database Management and Solutions (CSDMS), India and Malaysian Centre for Remote Sensing (MACRES), Malaysia announces their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 24th December 2002 to jointly organise Map Asia 2003 – 2nd, annual international conference and exhibition on Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and Remote Sensing (RS) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Map Asia 2003 conference will be organised in collaboration with Asian Institute of Technology, GIS Development and the event is scheduled from 17th -19th July, 2003 for promoting usage of GIS technologies and its applications in the Asian Region.

Map Asia was organised in the year 2002 for the first time in Bangkok, Thailand. It is the largest conference and exhibition on Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and Remote Sensing (RS) in Asia. More than 500 delegates were participated and over 150 papers were presented. There were above 20-industrial participation with their product exhibitions. Hence, taking inspiration from its overwhelming success and response in 2002, the two leading organizations of the South Asia region have entered into this agreement to host Map Asia 2003 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The aim of the conference is to help the Asian community to redefine and improve regional cooperation in the field of Geo-Informatics. It also aim to understand the spatial problems in regional perspective and highlight the immediate need for the growth in the government, private sector, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the field of Geo-Informatics. This shall provide a regional platform, bringing together all concerned government, private organisation working in the field of Geo-Informatics and to facilitate interaction, discussion, and collaboration amongst the participants.
