New Board of Directors Schedules GIS in the Rockies Conference 3.9.04

The conference will be held October 6-8, 2004, and will center on the theme of "Worlds of Opportunity."

Planning for the 17th Annual GIS in the Rockies Conference is underway. The new board of directors selected the theme "Worlds of Opportunity" to convey the excitement this industry offers and the range of topics it includes. The conference will be October 6-8, 2004 at the Plaza at the Mart, a facility at the Denver Merchandise Mart.

The program will include workshops and seminars, technical sessions and the exhibition on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday events will include technical tours and a golf outing.

The five sponsoring societies are the Colorado Section of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM), the Rocky Mountain Region of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Geospatial Information Technology Association (GITA), the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado (PLSC), and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA).

Each sponsoring society has two members on the board of directors. Board members are William Fuller and Douglas Ort, ACSM; Craig Erikson and Mark Hess, ASPRS; Pamela Coonrod and Deb Wilson, GITA; Robert Boehm and Mike Greer, PLSC; and Karen Brandt and Milly Powell, URISA. This year GIS Colorado is also contributing to the organization of the conference. Affiliate members Rena Brand and Jarrod Skulavik represent GIS Colorado on the board. The board has approved a contract with Cary and Associates to manage the exhibition, and principal Tina Cary is also an affiliate board member. The officers of the GIS in the Rockies 2004 board of directors are Karen Brandt, chair; Mark Hess, vice-chair; Deb Wilson, treasurer; and Rena Brand, secretary.

Each sponsoring society is developing a program track to ensure the conference offers value to the members of all segments of the geotechnology community.
