Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping released the Leica Photogrammetry Suite (LPS). The LPS product suite consists of Core, Stereo, Automatic Terrain Extraction, Terrain Editor, PRO600 and ORIMA. These digital photogrammetry products have fast processing speeds and allow users to transform raw imagery into data layers required for digital mapping, GIS analysis and 3D visualization. LPS's unique Workflow Toolbar guides users through projects from beginning to end, whether completed step-by-step or with the batch processing feature. The modular design lets users scale the software to fit their needs. LPS is fully compatible with Leica Geosystems' geographic imaging software suite, ERDAS IMAGINE 8.7, now also available worldwide. ERDAS IMAGINE 8.7 supports the JPEG2000 and GeoJP2 data format developed by Mapping Science Inc. and adds the capacities to display and create JPEG2000 images in the JPEG2000 format. Improvements to the mosaic tool include color balance imagery using dodging and support for rotated output sheets, and the ability to import/export cut lines and to conduct image smoothing along cut lines. The Geospatial Light Table (GLT) has also been improved with expanded use of DirectX 8.1 or higher, allowing users to roam smoothly through large sets of imagery. The GLT uses multi-threaded processors, one for rendering and one for reading data from a disk, to visually improve zooming and rotation of data. Other improvements in ERDAS IMAGINE 8.7 include fuzzy recode for deconflicting land cover classifications; dozens of new raster dlls, importers and exporters for seamless data access; and an expanded list of projections, spheroids and datums, including new vertical datum transformations.
