PCI Geomatics establishes a "Center of Excellence" at Boston University

The Center will focus on several themes, including natural resource management, place-based decision support and prototyping exercises for business.

PCI Geomatics, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, announced the creation of the PCI Geomatics Center of Excellence at Boston University's Center for Remote Sensing. The Center of Excellence will focus on several themes, including natural resource management, place-based decision support and prototyping exercises for business. The new software by PCI Geomatics will also assist the University's goals in its continued research to improve the understanding of groundwater distributions in hot desert areas, such as Egypt.

"We are delighted to have the PCI Geomatics Center of Excellence available to students as it offers students internship opportunities and invaluable work experience prior to graduating," says Cordula Robinson, an associate research professor in Boston University's Center for Remote Sensing. "Students will also be able to test software that is being developed by PCI Geomatics, including cutting-edge remote sensing software."

Under the agreement, PCI Geomatics will contribute geospatial software, technical support and software upgrades for the next three years.

"We teamed up with PCI Geomatics principally for its unique capability to handle radar images well, which other remote sensing software packages do not seem to do. This includes georeferencing, image display and information extraction capabilities," says Robinson. "Secondly, we are interested in OrthoEngine, especially for its mosaicking and stereo capabilities. Finally, we are excited about the pansharpening module - it's great!"
