Jim Farley joined the company as vice president of business development.

Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping division announced Jim Farley has joined the company as Vice President, Business Development. Leveraging his rich, diverse background in the geospatial information industry, Farley will continue building Leica Geosystems' position as the provider and partner of choice for all geospatial solutions.

Farley has spent more than twenty years in the information technology industry in both mainstream IT and GIS, working in the public and private sectors and in academia. For the past four years Farley was Senior Principal Product Manager, Spatial and Location Products in Server Technologies at Oracle. Farley led Oracle Spatial Product initiatives in raster technology, hosted location based services and in the integration of location technologies across Oracle eBusiness Applications.

Prior to joining Oracle, Farley served as Technical Director at the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies, and as Chief Technology Officer and Professor in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas. Farley held appointments in Environmental Dynamics; Geosciences; Anthropology and in the King Fahd Middle Eastern Studies Program. He has published more than one hundred papers and articles; and currently serves as an editorial advisor and regular contributor to several industry publications.

Farley received a Smithsonian Laureate for his work in distributed spatial data warehousing for government in 1999, and he was a founder of the Open Geospatial Consortium. As an outgrowth of his work in emergency response applications and in the Global Disaster Information Network (GDIN) Farley worked with senior scientific and policy staff in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the USGS and the USDA-NRCS to assess requirements and deliver programmatic and operational recommendations for implementing (global) enterprise geospatial solutions.
