POB eNews Vol. 25 No. 6

May 13, 2009

GUEST'S NOTE

Welcome to this week's edition of the POB eNews ...

I see a lot of press releases in an average day. Some are newsworthy--announcing a new hire or promotion, perhaps, or the start of a new project. Kristi GrahlOthers read more like a laundry list of general capabilities, and some aren't even relevant to our areas of coverage. (For instance, aren't you excited that there's a new brand of fruit-flavored water? I didn't think so.) Regardless of the theme, the goal of such correspondence is the same: publicity. Marketing-savvy firms understand that getting multiple mentions in various channels can boost their company's brand and image.

Of course, not every company has someone on staff that can write and distribute press releases, so the achievements of many surveying and mapping firms often remain under the radar. For these companies as well as for firms that are more proactive in seeking out exposure, POB's Highlights in Surveying contest provides a chance to get noticed in a positive way. Due to the number of entries we received for projects that were delayed because of funding issues or other challenges, we have extended the timeline for this year's contest to 18 months. Any project completed between January 1, 2008 and June 1, 2009 is now eligible to enter the contest. The Grand Prize winner will be featured in the October 2009 issue of POB and will also get publicity through our Web site, eNews and other distribution channels.

What's more, the winner will also receive a complimentary spot on the 2010 Land Surveyor's Workshops Continuing Education Cruise* courtesy of Land Surveyor's Workshops, the sponsor of this year's contest. LSW_Logo_in_color

There is a time for everything, and now is your time to brag. There is no charge to enter the contest, so what do you have to lose? Go to http://his.pobonline.com and enter your project today for your chance to win positive publicity and a cruise. Hurry! The deadline is June 1.

Kristi Grahl, POB Editor

*Port charges, taxes, gratuities and transportation/airfare to and from the port are not included. Additional terms and conditions apply.
