POB eNews Vol. 24 No. 9

February 4, 2009

EDITOR'S NOTE

pob0308_turning08Welcome to this week's edition of POB eNews ...

No one wants to be on the wrong end of a lawsuit. But every professional is at risk. "You would have to be an inanimate object to be immune from prosecution," says Jeff Lucas, JD, PS. "Everyone owes a duty to everyone else to 'do no harm.' When your actions do harm to someone else--either physically or simply harm to property and the associated rights--you have committed a tort that is punishable through a civil action."

One of the most common torts charged against the professional service provider is the tort of negligence, according to Lucas. But many other torts can also be committed in the process of simply staking a client's deed. While professional liability insurance offers some protection against legal action, many situations can be avoided altogether by ensuring that all business practices follow the laws that affect professional service providers.

125x125Join Lucas on Tuesday, Feb. 17, for POB's  Better Business Practices and the Law Webinar to learn about 10 business practices every firm can implement immediately to ensure that your practice is in harmony with the law.

A live Q&A session immediately following the presentation will give attendees a chance to ask specific questions pertaining to your businesses. One professional development hour (PDH) credit is available through Missouri University of Science and Technology for participants who pass the quiz after the Webinar with a score of 80 percent or better.*

If you can't attend the live presentation, you can still register to access the full Webinar-including the Q&A session-on POB's Web site anytime. If you have a question for Lucas that you'd like him to address in his presentation or in the Q&A, e-mail pobeditor@bnpmedia.com.
