The 14th Annual Surveyors Historical Society Rendezvous will be held September
16-17, 2010 aboard the Delta Queen Steamboat in Chattanooga, Tenn.
On
Thursday, Sept. 16, participants will learn about 19th century mapping
techniques with an emphasis on the Civil War. Thursday afternoon will be spent
mapping in Coolidge Park utilizing the tools and techniques of that war.
On Friday morning, current and former employees of the Tennessee Valley
Authority (TVA) will share that organization’s contributions to the mapping
sciences. (For example, did you know that the standard quad sheet was developed
in Chattanooga?)
The SHS board of directors will meet that afternoon. The
Tennessee Association of Professional Surveyors will host a golf tournament at
the Jack Nicklaus designed "Bear Trace." SHS will have the swap meet set up, and
a number of authors will be conducting book signings.
The event will wrap
up Friday evening with the annual SHS Banquet and benefit auction.
