PhoToPlan – true to scale image rectification within the CAD program

May 5, 2008

The PhoToPlan software developed by the kubit GmbH will be available as version 4.2 starting May 2008.
The program enables the direct true to scale rectification of digital or digitalized photos and plans within AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT and all programs based on the above like Architecture Map and Civil 3D.
When reference values will be measured at the object, a multi-purpose image plan may be generated from digital photos. This plan enables the easy tap of square and linear measures.

The rectified and spatially correct arranged images may now be overwritten with a 3D plan within the CAD program.

Next to the commands of the CAD program PhoToPlan offers many internal commands.

An Alpha-Blending function and new functions for the join of spatially arranged images enable the easy assembling of "panoramas" and consistent three-dimensional front plans.

If ESRI data have been assigned to the photos for geocoding purposes, these photos may be analyzed by PhoToPlan for the positioning. Vice versa, ESRI WORLD files may be generated for rectified and positioned images. That way images that have been positioned and scaled appropriately within an AutoCAD drawing may be imported into other systems, e.g. geographic information systems (GIS), with their exact position.

The digital image rectification is in most cases the most efficient method for the inventory survey. It combines the fast collection of geometric information with the photographic documentation. Due to the adjustment function of PhoToPlan the quality of common digital cameras is sufficient. Even wide-angle lenses may be used. A specific photogrammetric know how is not required for the rectification.

PhoToPlan is mostly used by architects, monument conservators, building historians and conservators for all aspects of the inventory survey. Typical applications are front surveys but also the documentation of mural and ceiling paintings or floors.

PhoToPlan is entirely compatible to AutoCAD 2009, AutoCAD 2009 LT and Vista. Version 4.2 is available in German, English and French.

If you are interested in PhoToPlan, you may test it for four weeks free of charge. You will find further information regarding PhoToPlan and other programs for the building inventory survey on the kubit homepage (www.kubit.de).
