This year the 53rd Annual New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors held their conference in the beautiful city of Saratoga Springs, NY.  A stroll down Broadway Avenue transports you back in time as downtown enthralls you with its snowy historic architectural locale.

It was great to see so many attendees making the trip again this year.  In this knowledge based industry it is important for us to keep our skills sharp, especially in this economy and in taking the profession to the next level.  I am grateful to the NYSAPLS conference committee especially Amber Anderson, Simran Kaur, and Brian Magee for another opportunity to teach, learn, meet fellow colleagues, and share experiences.

As one of the speakers at the conference, I had the privilege to share some new ideas with the group.  In this course participants looked at the concepts of patterns and processes, relating them to the dynamics of a project and evaluating the economic impact.  Using this process mindset, the group looked at a case study of a surveying and mapping company and integrated those concepts into strategies for fusing intelligence into a typical surveying workflow.

Finally the class had a vivid sum up on how a company is able to adapt- when faced with data overload and advancing technology in a new economy.
