LIVERMORE, Calif. –  Fraser Smith, a geomatics engineer with extensive experience in GNSS product research and development (R&D), has been named director of GNSS product management for Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS).

Smith, former R&D manager for Point, Inc., will report to Mark Hornstra, senior vice president, marketing and product management.

About Smith’s appointment, Hornstra said he “will take the leadership role in defining the product line strategies for GNSS products for Topcon and Sokkia.”

He said Smith “has a wealth of experience that will help create our next generation of innovative GNSS products. Fraser’s background will help optimize our development roadmaps and plans to improve product time-to-market and cost performance.”

Smith’s responsibilities will include working closely with the company’s engineering groups, as well as marketing and operations teams to “ensure the development of innovative and exciting products, that continue to be world-class in regard to quality and performance,” Hornstra said.

Topcon Positioning Systems, Inc. (TPS) designs and manufactures precise positioning products and solutions for the global surveying, construction, agriculture, civil engineering, mapping and GIS, asset management and mobile control markets. TPS’ parent company, Topcon Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange – 7732), was founded in 1932.
