LIVERMORE, Calif. – Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) has added FLT Geosystems as a distributor and technical service center for its GIS line of products.

Dave Henderson, TPS GIS sales manager, said, “We are pleased to have such an expert team bring Topcon’s GIS products to the Florida area. Florida is a state that has been very active in GIS for many years. The FLT team is comprised of the right people to service an advanced customer base that will benefit from Topcon technology."

The new GRS-1 mobile mapping system will be part of the Topcon GIS line carried by FLT Geosystems.

“The new GRS-1 with integrated cellular modem will be a great fit in the Florida region where reference station networks for real-time differential correction are so prevalent. The GRS-1 will make high accuracy real-time GIS data collection easy for our users in the region,” Henderson said.

Terry McKay, president of FLT Geosystems, said, “We have been associated with Topcon for more than 35 years and are delighted to add their GIS product line to our product mix. The survey community knows FLT’s capabilities in the GPS arena, and we are committed to bringing that expertise to the GIS mapping profession as well.”

The GRS-1 is a 72-channel dual-frequency L1/L2 GPS receiver with an integrated cellular modem. The GRS-1 is designed as an all-encompassing solution that can be adjusted to meet project requirements. It can be used to dial up to a local reference station network for real-time corrections. No extra cell phone hardware is required. An external L1 antenna can be used for real-time subfoot work. An external L1/L2 antenna is available for GIS-RTK (<5cm) work.

Henderson said, “Having a variety of accuracy capabilities available depending on the configuration of the unit makes the GRS-1 perfect for any GIS application including high-accuracy projects such as utility infrastructure, underground electric and gas, water/wastewater, asset management and land records management.”

About FLT Geosystems: Since FLT Geosystems opened the doors in 1956, the continuing goal has been to provide the best possible products and services-at the best possible prices-to land surveyors, mappers, engineers, and contractors.
