Aurora, CO USA – Merrick & Company, a world leader in LIDAR, digital ortho imaging, photogrammetry and GIS mapping was awarded a contract in April 2006 to provide digital orthophotography & LIDAR datasets for Delaware County, Ohio. Deliverables include aerial photography, ground control surveys, 0.5-foot pixel resolution color digital orthophotography, LIDAR data, a DTM, and two-foot contours for the entire County.

Gary Outlaw, GISP, Merrick’s Vice President of Business Development, GeoSpatial Solutions explains, “Merrick provided Delaware County with GIS basemap data and imagery in 1997 and 2002. We are honored to build on our past experience and continue to support the County’s mapping and GIS needs.”

According to Shoreh Elhami, GISP, GIS Director, Delaware County Auditor’s Office, “Merrick’s combination of superb managerial and technical expertise gave them a leading edge over all other companies. We were also extremely satisfied with the quality of work, professionalism of staff, and the final products that were delivered during the two previous projects.”

Delaware County is receiving LIDAR data for the first time. Elhami explains, “We are very excited about all potential applications of this new dataset. Because Merrick is a proven leader in LIDAR technology, we are confident in the quality of the final product and are looking forward to exploring its various potentials.”

The Delaware County Auditor provides imagery and terrain data to its constituents including tax payers and all governmental and nongovernmental entities via a web-based mapping application. Access to current and accurate data enables these organizations to enhance the quality of their services in numerous areas such as property appraisal, planning, economic development, utility mapping, road construction, and floodplain mapping. These applications address very important management issues as Delaware County is the fastest growing county is the state of Ohio and the 12th fastest growing county in the nation.
